YouTube Taggery

YouTube Taggery

I was recently tagged by Nerdfighter4 in a question tag game on YouTube. I confess, I tried to make this video earlier today but it didn’t come together. However I am still eager to answer the questions she poses, so thought instead I’d write about them.

1. Who was your first YouTube Subscriber?
2. Who did you first subscribe to?

The answer to both these questions is the same. A woman by the username MarWade. A wonderful woman living in Michigan. I came across her videos after searching YouTube for Rickie Lee Jones. I miss her so much. She made a conscious decision to leave YouTube some time ago and while I do miss her, I must respect her decision.

3. What do you like most about YouTube?

I really feel like I have a very particular personal philosophy and world outlook. What I like about YouTube is that I get to encounter other peoples’ ideas and thoughts and feelings. I always know what it is like standing in my shoes, YouTube gives me an insight into the experiences of other people. Whether it is a woman in need of a new kidney talking about the importance of organ donation, or a man talking about why gay marriage is important to him. Sometimes people cover topics that have escaped my mind entirely. And, yet, at other times it is encouraging to know you’re not “the only one.” Like when your heart has been trampled upon. (Not that I would want anyone else to experience that; but the point remains people do have that experience, it’s a part of the process of life I suppose.)

4. What do you like least about YouTube?

People are so angry all of the time. Its insane. Like little things cause people to spiral out of control. I worry for their health; their blood pressure. I also see a lot of people who are feeling hurt by comments others have made and want to engage them in equally disruptive ways. I plead with my friends to take the high road, though I understand when they can’t.

5. If you could trade places with one person who would it be?

Oh I don’t know. I confess I wonder frequently what it would be like to be as loved and celebrated and adored as some people (particularly on YouTube) are. I wonder, cynically, how much easier my life would be if I looked like the latest twenty-something eye candy filling the most discussed lists. And I hope if I had the chance to find out, I would come to realise we’re all human, we all have everyday challenges.

But if I did have to choose one person… I would very much like to know what is like to live with puppets in New York City.

  1. Yes… tagging seems to continue. The one thing I really don’t get is all the hate. I recently watched Curt’s video detailing an exchange between two individuals at a Gay Pride parade. I cannot fathom that kind of attitude towards humanity. Similarly, I see it on the Tubes and wonder why people expound on it.

  2. While this isnt a video, it is still exactly what I wanted. You are so kind and wonderful to share your thoughts.
