YouTube Owns My Soul

YouTube Owns My Soul

No, really!

I found myself making a title page for the John Lacey Network. The idea was simply to link to highlights from the things I do online. When I completed it I realised it was all (directly or indirectly) about YouTube except for this blog and a book of poetry I had written. My life has always revolved around this medium, the Internet. But for the first time it revolves around a single website: YouTube.

Now don’t get me wrong, I happen to like YouTube. I have lots of friends there. I like making videos, for the most part. (By “the most part” I mean when I’m not feeling self-conscious.) But I stop for a moment and realise my experience of the Internet used to be much more varied. I would moderate chatrooms and write articles. I would publish drawings. I would write music and movie reviews.

I actually miss chatrooms. Stickam is awesome but sometimes it is nice just to go to a text based room with a particular subject focus.

I guess its just a question of rededicating myself to the things that are important to me. As I type I can tell you VARIETY is very important to me! I want to do things I haven’t done in forever. I want to write [bad] poetry again. I want to draw. I want to electronically publish stories. I want to revel in the things I find fascinating.

I think I am going to re-read “The Artist’s Way.”

Of course I’ll still be on YouTube. I’ll still be watching. I’ll still be publishing a video a week. I just want to supplement that outlet with others. Watch this space. Or better still, the front page of The John Lacey Network.
