Does the cleavage make the actress?
I recently asked a female YouTuber, with an audience of in excess of 16,000 viewers, and known for her provocative style if she was worried her er, ‘assets’ overshadowed other aspects of her personality. Her answer floored me.
lol no i dont walk around topless

I wondered if she had even read my question. Perhaps the response was deliberately tongue-in-cheek. In any eventuality I concluded that even if her looks were a drawcard, it certainly wasn’t something she seemed to have a problem with.
Today I learned that Emmy Award-winning actress Christina Applegate underwent a mastectomy after discovering she had been diagnosed with breast cancer.
Here was an incredibly beautiful and talented woman faced with a serious medical challenge. I can’t begin to imagine what that decision process must’ve been like. Though for Applegate it seemed this action was a way of taking her life back, and she seemed relieved and happy in Television interviews.
At one point she even joked that after her breast reconstruction surgery she would have ‘the best breasts’ in the nursing home.
I suppose as someone who isn’t particularly good looking I wonder what it is like for the other half of the population. Is there ever a concern that people are relating to you in a purely aesthetic fashion? I am reminded of television ads for a certain travel show that invariably has a slow close up of one of their female presenters in a bikini on the beach. (I am impressed by their ability to find a sunny beach at any time of year.) I am reminded of the female news anchors who never seem to stay employed as long as their male counter parts.
Even Pamela Anderson, who obviously had good and noble intentions when she campaigned against fast food chain KFC while in Australia was quickly written off as a bit of a novelty.
At what point does such an asset become a liability? And what do you do about it?
If any one has any thoughts on this, I’d love to hear them.

Haha! How would one comment here without appearing to have tickets on oneself?
I’m not sure about having people watch because I’m “good looking” or whatever. I guess the majority of my audience are teenage girls, so it’s a distinct possibility. I guess I’m okay with it though. It’s only YouTube, and people watch for all sorts of reasons. People in my everyday life don’t treat me like a piece of meat… right?

Being attractive does help people in some ways and inhibit them being taken seriously in others. Maybe it all balances out. Think Natasha Stott Despoja.
First Christina Applegate…. noooooooooooo!
Ok now I’m going to try and make a fluent thought here as I wake up at work. I think just within the given parameters of Christina VS Pamela there’s an interesting example of your point being made.
On the one hand you have a beautiful blonde actress who is pretty well respected in her field. On the other hand you have a playboy playmate turned actress who’s kind of a whispered joke among her peers (or just the world). Case A relatively small in the chestal area and case B well that’s pretty much the first part you image when thinking of Pam.
So does CA’s value as an actress diminish if she gets implants? Would we really take Pam more seriously if she didn’t have them?
ok I said I was going to try and flush out a real thought, but the waking up isn’t working so good. So ponder that.
