Sarah Silverman on The State of Marriage

Sarah Silverman appeared on The View recently.

[I've tried to embed ABC's video of the segment but their embed code doesn't seem to want to work. For the time being here's a bootleg YouTube embed that does actually seem to work...]

Sarah Silverman:

I cannot imagine wanting to get married right now at this time in America. And I can’t get my head around anyone – you guys were talking about it earlier… If you’re for equal rights, why would you get married right now? Why would you want to be in a club – it’s like joining a country club that doesn’t allow blacks or Jews. There’s no difference. Why would I want to join that club? It’s gross.

So until equal marriage, no marriage. Absolutely not. No way.

  1. Yeah tell me about it. It seems to be a growing trend. People want to enjoy a relationship without the commitment. Just make use of one another to create the illusion of fulfilling that gaping emptiness within each and every human being until there is no longer any use for the other party. Then both parties break apart, not knowing that they had damaged one another unknowingly.

  2. I agree with her to a point. I find it gross as well. Inequality that is being condoned and written into law just baffles me. To tell others that marriage should be boycotted, meh, not sure that works for me. But props to those willing to go to those lengths.

And comment above me: really dude?

  3. Wow, Gareth, I’m not quite sure if your comment made my Valentine’s Day or depressed the hell out of me. Maybe a little of both. Awesome perspective though.

Anyway, I say go Sarah. Loved her before and this attitude is no surprise to me; however, the creeping, tentative applause to her comments was a little eye-opening. Maybe too many audience members just came to see Hasselbeck.
