On the drive home from work (which is potentially a separate blog entry all of its own, lol), I was thinking about the year that was. The highs and the lows – and the music. Certain songs seem now inexplicably and inrevoccably linked to moments of my life. Curiously few of these tracks were new to 2007, and in many instances neither were they new to me.
“Well the sound of your voice on the telephone
Makes me feel distressed
Makes me all alone
Why do I feel so incomplete
When you’re not here I’m just obsolete
But I love you… like a ball and chain
Oooh I love you baby just like a ball and chain”
(I Love You) Like A Ball and Chain – Eurythmics
“Have you ever closed your eyes and dreamed that they were there
And all you can do is wait for the day when they will care?”
Have You Ever? – Brandy
“It’s a heartache, nothing but a heartache
Hits you when it’s too late
Hits you when you’re down
It’s a fool’s game, nothing but a fool’s game
Standing in the cold rain
Feeling like a clown.”
It’s A Heartache – Rod Stewart
“I’m just some new kid
who can’t get his mind off of you
And I know that it’s stupid.”
- Two Weeks In Hawaii, Hellogoodbye
And this selection might seem decidedly emo. Perhaps it is. But it served a purpose.
