Love Is Possible, But Problematic

by admin on November 18, 2008

Earlier today I received a new subscriber on YouTube by the username of YesLoveIsPossible. There was something quite odd about this though and I quickly noticed a common theme. This person had only subscribed to Australian YouTube users, despite being American themselves. More than that, they seemed to be (for the most part) people who intended to attend the YouTube Gathering scheduled in Sydney on the 29th November 2008. And therein, dear readers, lies the answer!

Couple Dynamic Leaves Woman Seeing Red

The video gives way to a red screen and the voice of an American man can be heard saying what follows:

So I flew to Australia… and yeah, I fell in love. And then she came to visit me but she left ’cause she thinks I’m with someone else. And if I don’t find her and tell her exactly what I feel about her I’m probably gonna lose her forever. So if you believe in love, like at all, please, find it in your hearts to help me. Okay..

This is followed by a single title (white on red):

Flash Mob Of Love
11.29.08
11:00 AM
Steps of Sydney Opera House
Wear Red Tshirts

Maybe I’m just cynical but I smell a rat! Why should the events of a YouTube Gathering be of interest to this woman? Is she an Australian YouTube user? And why is this man hiding behind a red title; aren’t bold romantic gestures all about wearing your heart out on your sleeve? And she knows him well enough to go to the United States of America apparently to see him, and he doesn’t have the resources to contact her? He doesn’t have a name, phone number, e-mail address? What kind of flimsy “love at first sight” moment was he having? And moreover why did she think he was with someone else? (Was he with someone else?)

What is missing from this equation is trust and transparency, as much between him and the Australian girl of his dreams as between him and the people on YouTube he is attempting to enlist to help him. However before I file YesLoveIsPossible behind the Nigerian Money Scam I will forward a link to this blog entry to the YouTube account in question and await his reply.

In the meanwhile… exercise your own judgment. Though it is worth pointing out that many attendees are likely to be wearing red YouTube shirts to the event anyway.
