iPhone, You Phone

iPhone, You Phone

Well the iPhone was released in Australia last week. A lot of people I know are gripped with… iPhone fever? Rob and Leuke, especially, are very determined to get their hands on the little electronic wonders.

The Joy Of Tech poses an interesting dilemma: Would you rather be a millionaire OR own an iPhone?

This isn’t one of those “deserted island and your three favourite CDs” type scenarios, either. They’ve crunched the numbers. An important lesson on delayed gratification and the power of compounding interest, perhaps. Though I’m not telling anyone NOT to buy an iPhone. That would be madness. The two aforementioned 17 year olds would totally beat me up! lol

There has been much comparing and contrasting between iPhone plans here in Australia. Paul Hagon offers an interesting comparsion. I am kind of grateful that I’m not in the market for one, since the finer points of the plans themselves strike me as being incredibly confusing. (Though most people I’ve spoken to take a dim view of Telstra’s offering.)

The Australian Edition of Lifehacker reports:

Futurist Mark Pesce, an existing Vodafone customer, realised that his current cap plan could be spent on data as well as voice and text. While this isn’t mentioned anywhere in Vodafone’s explanations of its iPhone plans on its site, Pesce asked for the full printed terms and conditions in store, and it turns out that this also applies to the iPhone: you can spend your cap on data for 12 cents a megabyte (with a 50 cent minimum each time).

Finally, and also from the Australian Edition of Lifehacker, you will find some information about What’s Good and Free In The iTunes App Store.

I am particularly excited to see Evernote offered in iPhone application form. I recently received an invite to the beta version of the service and have to say I was genuinely surprised at how successful it is at copying and organising information. Expect a more elaborate review at Get A Web Start soon.

It almost makes you want to run out and buy one, doesn’t it?

  1. I really don’t understand what all the fuss is about. I’ve had numerous Palm-based PDA phone before. The thing I hated about them was that they were huge. The iPhone falls in the same category. I like my phone to be my phone and nothing more.

  2. mine…

that comic actually annoys me a little… because its hardly accurate, can be said about practically anything, AND doesn’t mention the fact that OMG DO YOU KNOW HOW HARD IT IS TO GET A COUMPUND INTEREST BANK ACOUNT?! they are very VERY rare and you pretty much need some sort of connection to end up with one.

  3. It has been released in France recently and so many people slept next to the store the night before to be sure to get it first in the morning. I really don’t understand the rationnal behind this… It is so expensive. Ok the design is cool. But what else?

  4. I have had a few friends that had iPhones, and loved them. But I have also had lots of friends that had them, and had nothing but problems with them. As for me, I think they are great, but a bit pricey for me ( I drop my phones too often to pay that much for them).
