Hair!

by admin on August 15, 2009

[ad#adsense250]Sometimes I really suck at asking for what I want. This seems particularly apparent when my hair grows so long that it becomes unmanagable and I shuffle dutifully down to the hairdressers. They ask me what I want. I can’t really convey it in words. (Perhaps I should suggest they read my blog.) They ask me what I got last time. I shrug apologetically. They point to this poster on the wall. It is a very familiar sight. Infact it is a picture of a guy with short hair. It is the same picture they point to everytime I go in there. I sort of grunt. ‘I guess it’ll do’ I think to myself. This time I did pipe up and say it was perhaps a little too short. The woman changes one aspect of her process to humour me. But still I cannot escape the feeling that this is the same basic hair cut different people have been giving me since I was a kid.

She asks a few more questions as she goes, giving me a few more customisation options. I react impulsively. I don’t really think about them. I just respond. I think later I made a mistake and that I really wanted the other option, but by this stage it is much too late. She asks me periodically if that looks okay and I say, “Yeah, great” but there is no feeling there, no conviction whatsoever. Eventually I come out looking like a badly injured hedgehog found on the side of a road. I look in the mirror in front of me and I notice a guy behind me and slightly to my right. His hair seems perfect! A vast improvement on the train wreck in front of me. But of course by this stage it is too late for the When Harry Met Sally ‘I’ll have what he’s having!’ moment I wish I could have. No, now I must wait until my hair grows out again and redo the whole thing again. Hopefully next I’ll be able to better articulate what I want. Hopefully I’ll know what that is. Hopefully I’ll be more insistent.

Cut out or print out a picture of someone with the style you want. They probably won’t be able to give you anything resembling it, and even if they do you probably won’t be able to replicate it the next day when you style it, but at least it’ll resolve the asking part.

DUDE! This is EXACTLY the process i go through. My hair cut it never the way I want it until two days after its cut. By then I have figured out how I want it.

Im thinking of taking my iPod touch with me next time. Have it loaded with pictures where i like my hair. :)
