Clutter Rules My World
My name is John, and I’m a slob! I have been a slob for some time now if I’m being honest. Even as I type I am debating whether I should include a photograph with this post. The truth is my room is so much cleaner than it has been in a very long time, but it is still so far removed from where I want it to be. And it hasn’t been for lack of trying.
I’ve even enlisted a myriad of online resources to help inspire my efforts.
- Unclutterer
- LifeHack
- Zen Habits
- Possessed Fascinating Online Documentary about Hoarding
- Clutterers Anonymous (I’m not even joking!)
The truth is I’ve recognised that I have a problem. I’ve started to correct it. Unfortunately this process seems to be such a gradual one it is difficult not to become easily discouraged. Yet I take some solace in the fact that it is better than it was, and that (hopefully) I have the tools at my disposal to correct the situation.
I look at the following graph that comes from the El Daveed Institute. (Okay there is no El Daveed Institute per se. But my friend made this very impressive graph and I adore it. David’s birthday is on Sunday, go leave him a message on his YouTube Channel.)

Eventually I hope to be up there in the optimal range. In the meanwhile I just need to keep reminding myself that clutter doesn’t make me a bad person. (Hopefully.)

a cluttered desk is the sign of a cluttered mind… that can be a good thing…. lots on the desk = lots on the mind. If your whole room is cluttered then you are deep in thought, yes?
Holy crap! I must have an overloaded mind! I started “cleaning” my place a week ago… I did manage to get the bedroom armoire, desk drawers, kitchen cabinets, and bathroom cabinets squared away all nice and tidy… I just have to figure out what to do with all the crap laying on my floor that came OUT of all those places! The way my place looks now, you could just add a few unruly cats and it would be perfect.
