I don’t check my subscriptions very often. Although for some reason my attention was drawn to the particular folder in Outlook Express they automatically end up. And I came across this little gem…
CassieHasDreams has been eagerly subscribing to the who’s who of Australian YouTube. (I probably shouldn’t be insulted that it took her so long to get to me.) The truth is there is something very odd about ‘Cassie.’ And I’ll tell you why. For starters she claims it is 2011. She has a video that purports to be of New Years Eve 2011. She talks earnestly about seeing us all again in 2012. She claims to live in Bourke. And, well, maybe I should let her YouTube profile description speak for itself:

it’s 2011 and as you know this stupid drought just keeps getting worse and worse and worse and as all my friends have started leaving town – I thought I would try and connect with a few people online – so here I am.
Her age appears as being 18 and 20 on the same profile, though I suppose time travel will do that to a person.
The truth is there is something a little too familiar about this scenario, and something a little bit too familiar about ‘Cassie.’
Australian television audiences will be a little more familiar with ‘Cassie’ as ‘Bec’ from ABC’s Blue Water High. It would seem Kate Bell, the actress behind ‘Bec’ and now ‘Cassie,’ has a new television program in the works. Channel nine obviously has big hopes for “Scorched” so much so that it jumped on this crazy viral video circus. If only they had have consulted its self-proclaimed expert Nalts for pointers.
How does it feel Australia to know you now have your own LonelyGirl15?
Perhaps when Channel Nine have finished with this caper, we can lose her in the bush a la Blairwitch Project?
This is how I know I’m totally old and shit: a YouTube channel where Rhoda Morgenstern and Mary Richards vlog together about their bad dates would NEVER go live… and not just because the actresses who played them are now 70 years old.

Well whoever it is who’s doing the subscribing, they’re a total n00b. It’s just people at random. For example: they subscribed to chrisontv89 before chrisontv88. A long, long time before – none of it makes sense. It’s obvious they’re not really engaging with the community here, which means that this ad campaign is destined to fail.
So far all this year, when I try typing 2008, I almost always accidentally type “2208″ but this is not because I believe we are 200 years in the future, merely hitting a double-2 instead of double-0. This time I typed it slowly enough not to make that mistake… But wow, I’ve never had myself convinced it was a different year before :)
Interesting that they’re trying that out here… I tend to believe what works there might not necessarily work here.
