Bible Reworked; Wafer Whackiness
Eucharist Desecration: The Saga Continues
We recently covered the adventures of Webster Cook and his mystical wafer. Well here is its second coming. Turns out that PZ Myers offered his own views on the subject in a blog entry titled, “It’s A Frackin’ Cracker.” There’s nothing terribly exciting to be had here; it is the kind of thing you’d expect from an atheist. (Much like my own entry, except obviously less insightful and humourous.) What is spectacular here is the outcome of the post! A disgruntled (now-former) employee of 1800-FLOWERS.com sent a death threat to Mr. Myers and was subsequently fired.
You’re Going Straight To Hell: Betty Bowers, America’s Most Saved Christian
It’s NIV, But Not As We Know It!
Zondervan has launched a book tour of sorts. Although the tour will reach 90 cities over 44 US states, its author won’t be making any appearances to the best of our knowledge. Instead they’re getting regular folk to rewrite it. Confused yet? I know I am.
Its a little book titled “The Bible” – maybe you’ve heard of it? [Specifically the New International Version.] The plan is to release a copy of the tome written in the handwriting of American Christians. 31,173 of them, apparently.
Now instead of just trying to interpret passages you’ll also have to decipher the handwriting they are presented in! It will be interesting to see how closely the process is overseen and if any liberties are taken. For tour status updates, check out BibleAcrossAmerica.com.
Forgive Me Father For I Have… Smiled
Copies of Christian magazine “Gospel Today” were removed from shelves in Christian Bookstores and sold exclusively from behind the counter after they were deemed too controversial.
What could be so controversial you might wonder… Graphic imagery protesting abortion, perhaps? Something to do with sexual abuse within the church? Not even close.
The cover had a photograph of five fully-clothed smiling women on it. As if that wasn’t shocking enough in and of itself, the women were church pastors!
The cover carried the caption: “Breaking The Glass Ceiling: Female Pastors – Share Their Joys, Struggles and Victories.” One wonders how you can break through a glass ceiling when you can’t even have your photograph published without protest…
Happy Sunday everyone!
