Animal Cruelty
Disgusting reports of cruelty to dogs have emerged from Western Sydney. A female cattle-dog cross was found hanging from a tree a park in Mount Druitt; RSPCA officials apparently unsure if it had died before or after being strung up there. A male Terrier cross was found in Knight Park, Yennora, having apparently been deliberately set alight. It was taken to a vet by a passer-by though the dog had to be put down.
I don’t have words to express how much this saddens me. Of course I say this as someone who feels an enormous sense of guilt when I forget to feed and water my virtual puppy, Dennis, on Facebook. Since I was a child, I’ve been fascinated by the animal kingdom. Even now I love attending zoos and animal parks. I just stand in awe of the beauty and majesty and variety of these amazing creatures.

To know the love and affection and loyalty of a pet is one of life’s most wonderful gifts. I don’t currently have a pet, though I have had many in the past. I cannot begin to fathom the kind of cruelty being reported. In truth I don’t want to. I don’t want to be dragged into it. I just feel grateful that there are organisations like the RSPCA who are dedicated to the protection of animals.
For those within Australia, please note that Friday 10th October 2008 is Happy Tails Day, an important fundraising event for the RSPCA. I would encourage anyone who is as hurt by this news as I am to support this event in any way they can.
If anyone has any information about these instances of cruelty, please contact RSPCA NSW via their website or by calling (02) 9770 7555.

I know what you mean. I really miss having a dog. I’m so tempted to pick up a dog here for the duration of my stay. They give so much love hand have so much more to give in return that we owe it them and ourselves to treat them with the utmost respect.
